You are in one of the ecological wonders of the island of Puerto Rico, Piñones State Forest. The same is located in the coastal plain north of the town of Loiza, with an area of 1560 acres. This forest is included in the Area of Subtropical Moist Forest Life.
The Planning Board, in accordance with the recommendations of the Natural and Environmental Resources Department, designated this forest as a natural reserve on September 20, 1979.
Piñones State Forest has amazing physical, ecological and geographical qualities. It represents a natural habitat for a wide diversity of marine and terrestrial life that resides in this area. This coastal forest has a variety of natural resources, including a mangrove area, which forms part of the largest continuous natural system of mangroves in Puerto Rico. You can also see beaches, reefs, bays, seagrass beds, salt marshes, islets, luminescent lagoon and sand dunes.
